With tons of Live Oaks that keep their stunning greenery year-round, rolling meadows accented with gorgeous flowers, and charming hanging baskets found around the property during all seasons, the beauty of Red Gate Farms is truly unmatched. If you’re hoping to host an open-air wedding, here are a few things we suggest you keep in mind.
Consider the time of year
One of the biggest things to take into account when planning an outdoor celebration is, of course, the weather. You’ll want to ensure that your venue of choice can accommodate to keep your guests comfortable, no matter the temperature outside!
While winters are typically mild here in the Lowcountry, if you have your wedding during the colder months, you’ll need to make sure your guests have a way to warm up if needed. At Red Gate Farms, we can supply you with heaters, and couples can opt to add a firepit near their reception area at The Barn and The Grainery. The inside of The Grainery is also heated.
On the other hand, during the warm summer months, we can supply you with fans to help your guests cool down. In addition, the interior of the beautiful, rustic Grainery, which once served as the farm’s storehouse, is also air-conditioned, so you and your guests can feel as comfortable as possible as you dance the night away!
No matter which time of the year you choose to have your outdoor wedding, we strongly recommend having a backup plan in case of bad weather. Mother Nature can often be unpredictable, and having a plan in place months in advance can help ease your stress in the days and weeks leading up to your ceremony. At Red Gate Farms, we’ll do everything possible for you to host your wedding outdoors. However, if it does rain on your big day, we have an extensive backup plan to implement in as little as 30 minutes to ensure your wedding is still just as beautiful and perfect as you dreamed.
Add seasonal touches
Fully embrace the season of your wedding! There are many ways to add creative touches to your outdoor celebration that pay homage to the time of year of your marriage.
If your big day is during the chillier months, your guests will surely love the option of warming up with a hot chocolate or coffee bar. We’ve noticed a growing trend of s’mores bars and even flaming donut stations, which are always crowd pleasers!
Should your celebration be in the spring or summer, include a charming welcome drink station, complete with lemonade, iced tea, or even champagne! If you’re looking to truly delight your guests with a cool, sweet treat, you can add an ice cream cart from Savannah’s most beloved ice cream parlor, Leopold’s! The opportunities to add creative and personal touches to your outdoor celebration are endless.
Consider the size of your outdoor venue
While many venues may offer an outdoor option, not all of them may be large enough to accommodate your guest list. The last thing you’d want is for your guests to feel confined or stuffed. So, if you dream of a big celebration, a significant aspect to consider when searching for your dream venue is whether it is spacious enough to accommodate all of your guests, particularly if your invite list is more extensive.
The Barn and The Grainery offer ample outdoor space to host the grand wedding of your dreams. When hosting outdoor weddings, many couples may choose to tent a portion of the area. Not only does this help lend shelter from any unpredictable weather, but it also lends a lovely, luxurious feel to the evening.
